Hope
Cute kitten right? Her name is Hope. She is one of the kittens from a litter of four. Two of the other kittens are still alive and well, while one died. The mother also died, after being attacked by a dog that someone let loose. This kitten in particular, I asked to have her immediately when I noticed her eyes.
Her eyes are severely infected. She has a very common bacterial eye infection that kittens get often. Her eyes are swollen shut and ooze pus. There is also pus present on her nose. She has a hard time seeing but seems able to judge where things are by sound and shadows. Although the family that had her previously tried to help her with her infected eyes, they were ineffective.
I did, only moments after I received her, try to wash away some on the exterior pus on her face with a warm cloth, but it didn't help much.
So, on to research.
I will later be using a saline solution with some cotton balls to gently remove as much of the pus and swelling from her eyes as I can. This should help her eyes open, or at least separate the eyelids that are stuck together. After all that, which will most likely take some time, I will be able to check on the swelling under her eyelids.
Hope's eyes are very, very infected and as far as I can tell, upon research, if her eyes do not start getting better soon, she will go blind.
Hope is around two months old.... far too young to go blind and survive without an intense amount of care everyday of her life. She may not be miserable, but the kitten will never see.
I am determined to help rid her of this rather gross eye infection and let her see the world as she grows up.
With proper feeding and care.... I hope to save her.
As for her name? Hope needs a little hope.
